For USA bidders, given this car was sold originally to the USA market and will be returning to the USA market, there are NO export duties on top of the final sale price, there would be no cross border holds, and there are no needed conversions or alterations to the car required as everything is still in original USA spec (notably the instrument cluster). It has been shown that all Z4’s up until 2009 (including the Z4MC) were made in South Carolina, USA. This is confirmed by the first digit of the VIN which identifies the country of origin – U.S. starts with 1,4, or 5 and the Z4MC being a 5. Despite the words “Made in Germany” being shown on the door VIN sticker the car was indeed manufactured in South Carolina, USA.
Additionally, we will not be collecting any local government sales taxes on top of the sale price provided the car is shipped out of country and we do not charge any other hidden fees or dealer surcharges. Canadian bidders will however be subject to a 5% government sales tax on top of the purchase price that we are required to collect provided the car will stay within and be registered in Canada. I can help the winning bidder with directing them to a couple of transportation carrier companies that will transport across the USA and Canada and cross-border. The transport companies have their own import brokers and it is a seamless process to ship into the USA with no delays or holds (again, given the previous original USA history of the car and no required conversions).
Transportation via open carrier from Calgary, Alberta to Great Falls, Montana will be $750-$850 dependent on which trucking company is used. Border brokerage fees, bond fees, entry preparation, customs reporting and filing and other incidentals will come in at roughly $1,100 depending on the final sale price of the car.
As a safe number – budget for $1,900 – $2,000 USD for transport, brokerage, and all incidentals to have the car picked up in Calgary, Alberta and delivered to Great Falls, Montana. There are hundreds of cars and trucks heading south daily and the process is simple and straightforward. We can handle 100% of the logistics for you in respect to hiring a registered importer and will cover 100% of all brokerage and transport fees to Great Falls, Montana included with the $2,000 USD fee. This will guarantee zero issues as you will be buying the car on a USA title from the USA – or, you can do the same yourself at the end of the sale for the same cost using our contacts. Either way, buying from Canada shouldn’t be a concern, and in this particular instance where it is an original USA spec BMW there are no duties or conversion expenses to be worried about.
